Here you will find information on travelling to Orkney, activities during the year, Orkney heritage and culture, Orkney's environment and natural history, as well as store fronts of some Orcadian merchants. There is a very nice panoramic view of Orkney on the opening page.

History

    Sigurd Towrie's Orkneyjar
    A terrific site on the heritage of Orkney. Includes folklore, traditions, and some very beautiful photographs.

    The Balfours in Orkney
    A collection of genealogical data on the Balfour family, tracing its origins from 11th century Fife but dealing primarily with the Orcadian branches, including the senior line, whose antecedents settled in Westray in Orkney in the 16th century.
    Although the surname is extinct in Westray, there are still branches of the family on the Orkney mainland stemming from William Sinclair Balfour who removed from Westray to the farm of Breck in Rendall in the late 1800s.
